Summer Camp 2021

Sunday, August 1, 2021

For the first time in our short history, Troop 214 went to Camp Alexander this summer camp for our summer camp experience.  The 13 of us with our 2 fearless Scoutmasters set off Sunday morning and traveled into the mountains.  One of our very own members, Noah M. was our troop guide for the week and one of our favorites from years past was the Pool Director.  Members in our troop took merit badges that covered a wide range of topics.  Some worked on Eagle Required Merit Badges like Emergency Preparedness, First Aid, Swimming and Environmental Science others spent time in Shooting Sports Valley earning Archery, Rifle Shooting and Shotgun Shooting.  There were also some of us that were a bit more creative with our time and merit badges like Pottery, Welding, Basketry and Woodcarving.  As a troop we completed 30 merit badges in all!!

Some memorable moments were when Sean M. put on his Star Wars Costume and walked through camp while Alex B. played the Imperial March as they walked.  This year was a little different with COVID restrictions, but Camp A was able to have us hold the campfire on the parade grounds.  We also ate outside at picnic tables or under the giant tents. Another of our members Alan C. had worked up at camp earlier that summer and was able to explain to us the Trading Post rules.

Overall I would say that we had a great time.  It was great to be back doing things outside together again.
